As Christmas approaches, I’m finding myself getting anxious: Worried about not finishing everything on my to do list. Worried about what presents to get people. Worried about family members who won’t be able to join in the festivities, due to geographical distance. Worried about family members who will be together at Christmas; wondering how they’ll manage, given their rocky history.I took this photo a few months ago, while walking down our driveway. These delicate flowers, blooming cheerily near our front fence, captured my attention. This week I’m going to make a point of gazing at some more roadside flowers, to remind me of Jesus’ words in Matt 6: Look at how God cares for the flowers… How much more will he care for you! I invite you to do the same. 💚
The Message version is brilliant: “Give your entire attention to what God is doing right now, and don’t get worked up about what may or may not happen tomorrow. God will help you deal with whatever hard things come up when the time comes.” (Matt 6:34)
Lord Jesus, you tell us not to worry about tomorrow because tomorrow will worry about itself. We agree with you that each day has enough trouble of its own! Yet we still find ourselves fretting. Please help us remember to take our concerns to you, as Christmas approaches. Please give us your peace. Thank you for promising to give us the strength we for each new day – we don’t need to hoard extra strength today for what may or may not happen tomorrow. We love you, Lord. Thank you for coming into the world to save us. Amen
